Sporting programs at Pakenham Secondary
At Pakenham Secondary College, sport plays an important role in school life. Our programs are designed to encourage students to stay active, develop skills, build confidence and enjoy being part of a team.
We offer opportunities for students of all abilities to participate, whether they are experienced athletes or trying a sport for the first time.
Alongside our Health and Physical Education curriculum, students can take part in a wide range of sporting programs, house events and interschool competitions throughout the year.

Free Specialist Training Programs - Year 7 Focus
Year 7 Netball Development Program
This free program is open to Year 7 students and runs once a week before school in the gymnasium.
It is led by an experienced coach from Emerald Netball Club and a staff member with strong local netball experience, including championship-level teams.
Students develop:

Core netball skills (passing, shooting, footwork)

Game strategy and positioning

Communication and decision-making

Netball-specific fitness and agility
-
Skills in modified games and match play
The program focuses on skill development, confidence, and teamwork.

Pakenham Warriors Basketball Program
This free before-school program is open to Year 7 students interested in developing their basketball skills.
Delivered in partnership with the Pakenham Warriors and led by an experienced club coach, students build:

Dribbling, passing and shooting skills

Defensive techniques and game awareness

Decision-making through small-sided games

Communication and teamwork

Basketball-specific fitness and conditioning
The program supports both beginners and experienced players in a fun and supportive environment.

Interschool Sport
Pakenham Secondary College is part of the Cardinia Division for interschool sport, competing against schools including Officer, Edenbrook, Kambrya, Koo Wee Rup, Lakeside and others in the region.
Students have the opportunity to represent the College in a range of sports, including:

Whole School Sporting Carnivals
Athletics Carnival
The Athletics Carnival is one of the key events in our school calendar. Students participate in a range of track and field events including sprints, hurdles, relays, long jump, high jump, shot put and discus.
Students are encouraged to take part at their own level—whether aiming for personal bests, competing for house points or qualifying for higher-level competition.
The day promotes participation, effort and school spirit.

House Tournament
Our House Tournament is a fun, whole-school event designed to encourage participation and house spirit through a mix of novelty and sporting challenges.
The focus is on participation, teamwork and having fun as a school community.

Cross Country
The Cross Country event is held across all year levels and encourages students to challenge themselves in a supportive environment.
Students complete a set course with their year level, with strong encouragement to participate, regardless of ability level. The event builds endurance, resilience and personal achievement, with a great atmosphere created by students supporting each other along the way.
