Strengthening Engagement and Achievement in Mathematics and Science (SEAMS) Program



Strengthening Engagement and Achievement in Mathematics and Science (SEAMS) is an academic program run in collaboration with Monash University and the University of Melbourne. Participants will be invited to attend a three-day program hosted by Monash University and the University of Melbourne, during the July school holidays.


SEAMS students participate in interactive workshops and academic sessions to prepare them for Maths Methods and Chemistry or Physics units ahead. Students will also have the opportunity to take part in fun social activities that will allow them to make friends with other SEAMS participants.


ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible to participate in the SEAMS program, students must:


  • Be in Year 11 or 12 in 2024

  • Be studying Maths Methods and Chemistry and/or Physics in 2024*

  • Be an Indigenous Australian, have a low income, or live in a regional or low-socio economic area

  • Have parent/guardian consent

  • Have their application endorsed by their school.

JULY 2024 SEAMS PROGRAM


Year 11 Camp

Dates: Monday 1st and Tuesday 2nd July (online) and Wednesday 3rd July (in person)

Location: Onlien and in person at Monash University, Clayton


Year 12 Camp

Dates: Tuesday 2nd July - Thursday 4th July (all in person) Location: In person residential camp at University of Melbourne, Parkville


*Year 11 students: At least 2 of VCE Chemistry 1&2, Physics 1&2 and Maths Methods 1&2 *Year 12 students: At least 2 of VCE Chemistry 3&4, Physics 3&4 and Maths Methods 3&4


COST, ACCOMMODATION AND MEALS

SEAMS is free for all students as it is fully funded by both universities. Accommodation is provided for students attending the overnight camp at the University of Melbourne.
