Our Indigenous Artist in Residence, Sam Richards, has been working with our students all year, educating them on the traditional Wurundjeri symbols, telling Creation and Dreamtime stories, providing insightful information on Indigenous culture, including sharing her extensive knowledge of Indigenous flora. Samantha has also been teaching weaving and woodwork practices, as well as how to produce Indigenous digital art using Procreate. Our students have been thrilled to learn all of these exceptional skills.
Year 7 Students Receive Distinction Award in Statewide Mathematics
Talent Quest
Congratulations to Dante Trott, Seth Savage and Logan Laycock from 7.1 for receiving a Distinction Award in the Statewide Maths Talent Quest Competition.
Their project, "How much will it cost to build and run an Air BnB?" was well thought out and produced to an extremely high standard.
First held in 1982, the Maths Talent Quest is an annual activity open to all primary and secondary students. Students select their own investigation topic based on their personal learning interests and apply mathematics in context. They understand and discover how mathematics is used and found in the world around them, providing a positive experience that reduces the barriers to learning in mathematics and often reduces student maths anxiety.
TESTIMONIALS
"We would like to commend Pakenham Secondary on what has been a more than successful transition year with our daughter.
On the back of two years of remote learning in lockdowns, our daughter transitioned into Year 7. Like any parents we had our concerns and expectations.
These concerns were very quickly put to rest as we saw the great connections develop with Teachers, Leadership Teams and fellow students.
Our daughter has gone from strength to strength this year, her improvement in Mathematics has been exceptional and her social confidence has blossomed. The opportunities that have been afforded to her through the Enhancement Program has been wonderful and we are pleased she will continue in this program in Year 8.
The school's academia goals and social connectedness is very apparent in their actions, communications and ethos.
We look forward to next year, and our son enrolling in a couple of years."
