Deleted Items folder, what is it & where is it ?
When you delete a message from your EduMail Inbox it is removed from the current folder and placed in the Deleted Items folder. This is a safeguard that enables you recover a message if you deleted it in error. The Deleted Items folder is a standard part of your EduMail mailbox. This folder appears, in a hierarchical sense, at the same level as the Inbox folder.
If you use Microsoft Outlook 97/98/2000, you access the deleted items folder by:
-using the Outlook shortcuts to go direct to this folder, or
-by clicking the View menu enabling Folder List, to see this and all other folders in your mailbox.
If you use a web browser such as Internet Explorer to access EduMail your mailbox opens up in your Inbox, you will need to navigate up from your Inbox to the view of all folders and then click on the Deleted Items folder (click on the Deleted Items). To navigate up a folder level from your Inbox, click on the yellow folder icon (containing an upward arrow).
What is the issue with Deleted Items folder ?
Many users delete old mail /unwanted mail unfortunately they do not empty their Deleted Items folder. This clutters the EduMail system and places a serious drain on disk storage resources. For the individual EduMail user this reduces the available space in their mailbox and is one of the most common reasons why their mailbox fills up and exceeds the system limit.
What is the solution ?
1. Users should ensure that they regularly empty their Deleted Items
folder.
2. The EduMail service will implement an automatic cleanup of Deleted
Items. In keeping with best practice this will be on weekly basis, to
cleanup the Deleted Items folders of any deleted mail that is older than
30 days. It is intended to phase in the automated process by conducting a number
of staggered cleanups.
