Computer Network and Internet Acceptable Use Policy

Student Agreement

I, .................................................................... have read the School’s Computer Network and Internet Acceptable Use Policy on the use of the computer network facilities and have discussed the policy with my parent/guardian. I agree to abide by the guidelines set out in the policy. In particular, I agree that:-

1. I will treat with respect and care all computer equipment.

2. I will not attempt to load any programs (games and other software) onto any school computer, including into my home directory (when allocated to me), unless I have permission to do so.

3. I will not waste system resources:-

  • by attempting to access, through the Internet, material that is not related to the School’s educational goals
  • by logging in to CHAT sites
  • by downloading large files (>500K) without permission
  • by exceeding my home directory size limit (1 Mb for Yrs 7 – 10 & 2 Mb for VCE students)

4. I will not enter any computer room without the permission of a teacher nor will I use any school computer without such permission.

5. I will not consume or take food or drink into a computer room.

6. I will never attempt to make unauthorised access to any part of the network or log in to another person’s account.

7. I will not change the configurations on any school computer (this includes desktop appearance, screen savers, printer setup, hiding the task bar, etc.)

8. I will not allow any other person to log in to my account or intentionally reveal to them my password. I understand that I will take responsibility for my own account. I will keep my password secret and regularly change it.

9. I will not send any offensive e-mail. I understand that this means I will not engage in writing or forwarding e-mail which fall into any of the following categories: i) hate mail, ii) spamming, iii) harassment, or iv) disrespectful messages.

10. I will inform a teacher immediately if I:

  • accidentally enter an Internet site that is inappropriate, as defined in this Policy
  • accidentally change the configurations on any computer
  • receive messages which make me uncomfortable or are offensive (I will not delete the message until it has been seen by a teacher so it can be used to trace the sender)

11. I understand that my failure to observe these requirements may result in disciplinary action against me, which may include being banned from using the School’s computer facilities (outside timetabled, teacher supervised class time) for a period determined by the Principal. This may be a permanent ban, particularly in the case of repeated offenses.
