Pakenham Secondary College is situated approximately 50 kilometres southeast of Melbourne and caters for students in Years 7 to 12. It was established in 1968 providing education to a largely rural community. The demographic has changed with the rapid growth in the area and the College now services a more urban population.The school now enrols about 950 students with the school population expected to peak at 1800 with a long term projection of 1200 students.
The College was established in 1968 on 16
hectares of spacious, treed grounds. It has currently completed stage 4 of 6 new developments. Overall there are 6
stages of rebuilding that will see the College facilities as state of
the art, including anytime, anywhere student access to computer
facilities. The new gymnasium, library, performing arts, learning
centre and computer pod facilities were completed for the 2003 school
year.The Senior school complex including Home Economics facilities was completed in 2006. The Arts,Science and technology complex was completed in 2008. All are designed around providing flexible learning spaces.
The school is structured around two sub-schools,
middle and post compulsory years in order to facilitate both the
desired curriculum structure and teaching strategies needed to enhance
the different learning requirements in these stages. The College
curriculum is broad and aims to engage students in their studies. Our
senior students are able to access VCAL, a variety of VET courses and
enhancement studies as part of their VCE. A priority for the College
is the development of students thinking skills. The college has a
tradition of healthy student participation in a rich co-curricula
program.
